Venue: Feynman Lecture Hall

Class Timings: 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM, Tuesdays and Thursdays

First Meeting: 17th January 2023

Course Description:

This is an introductory quantum field theory (QFT) course. The course
will try and also cater to students who have had some previous exposure
to the object. So the course will start with the basics of QFT but also
seek to cover some advanced material.
Syllabus:
The need for fields; Canonical quantization of fields; Particles;
Perturbation theory; Feynman diagrams; Properties of the S matrix;
Renormalization; Functional Methods; Gauge theories; if time permits, we
will discuss New methods for scattering amplitudes

Textbooks:

1) Introduction to quantum field theory, Peskin and Schroeder
2) Quantum Theory of Fields vol I and vol II, Weinberg
3) Notes from Sidney Coleman's Physics 253a, https://arxiv.org/abs/1110.5013

References to additional textbooks and notes will be provided during the
lectures.

Evaluation: 75% assignments + 25% final exam.
