Venue: Emmy Noether Seminar Room on Tuesdays, Chern Lecture Hall on Fridays

Class Timings: Tuesdays and Fridays from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

First Meeting: 9 Jan 2026 (Friday)

Course Outline:  These sessions are compulsory for all first-year mathematics and physics students (PhD as well as IPhD). Each session will consist of a lecture given by one faculty member about the work done in their group(s). Students are supposed to interact and actively engage in discussions during the lectures with the speakers, and their colleagues. Each student will be required to submit a short summary of what was discussed in these lectures, along with three interesting new "things" that they have learned in the class. As part of their essays, students are  also encouraged to identify an interesting open problem that they found interesting in the research area summarized during that class.

Course Evaluation: 
Each student will be required to submit a 2-4 page originally worded summary of the research topics discussed in these classes. For the final grade, the best N/2 assignment submitted will be used for each student, where N is the number of total lectures in the course.
